Free, quality primary care is key

to achieve a decent state of health.

The health project is based on the initial medical diagnosis, on prescribing and delivering

medications and patient follow-up. To ensure that everyone can access and exercise their right to health, our health service is completely free and is aimed above all at the most disadvantaged populations of Nouadhibou.

CHALLENGE

To achieve a decent state of health, primary care is necessary for diseases related to:

The deficiencies and bad state of the waters.

Personal hygiene and hygiene of shantytowns where people often live with animals.

Clothes and belongings that facilitate the development and transmission of parasites.

THE 3 BASIC PILLARS

Diagnoses that are born in an individual, but that must be looked at globally in the whole family (skin, digestive, respiratory). Generic medicines, which tackle the diseases that occur. Monitoring of patients for compliance with treatments and health recommendations.

Doctor and medicines are already working in a health center with several surgeries and donated equipment, enough for this level of care.

SOCIAL AGENTS - SANITARY

Health agents are trained for two years (two cycles of external training per

health professionals from the Puerto del Rosario Health Center in Fuerteventura) and are in

constant practice. Their work is carried out both in the project development center and in meetings with women responsible for the family when they go to collect food rations and medical assistance.

The role of health agents is to resolve doubts regarding the performance of treatments

and the repetition of healthy and eating habits. They are also responsible for monitoring and

nuance in cases where it is necessary to teach women and young people, responsible

in most cases of the management and care of the family.
